Best Overall: Nectar Premier Mattress

Is the Nectar Premier mattress better than the other memory foam mattresses? Yes, it is!
Best Overall
premier-hybrid-mattress

The Nectar Premier mattress is the only all-foam mattress on our list and for a good reason –its six-layer construction is on par with some of the best hybrid mattresses we've seen so far. And considering that it's an upgrade from the already luxurious Nectar memory foam mattress, it only makes sense. We have given it our top spot for the Best Luxury Mattress 2024 award, so it must be good!

First, we start with this lovely quilted cover that's specially made to wick away moisture and keep you fresh and cool during the night. As we all know, that's not something all-foam mattresses are known for.

Next up, we have several layers of super comfy and supportive memory foam layers. However, unlike most memory foam mattresses, this isn't done with simple “zoning”. Instead, this mattress features honeycomb-shaped micro-zone layers in order to be even more precise when supporting your body. So, you're getting that added support that people usually miss out on with pure-foam mattresses.

Finally, there's one thing that makes this mattress better than all the other memory foam mattresses and that's the Forever warranty. Not to mention that you also get free named-day delivery and a 1-year trial! So, in terms of coverage, it's likely the best mattress in the business.

KEY FEATURES:
  • Size: Single, Small Double, Double, King, Super king
  • Type: Memory foam
  • Warranty: Lifetime
  • Depth: 28cm
  • Firmness: 6.5/10

Best Design – Simba Hybrid Luxe

Inarguably one of the best hybrid mattresses ever made and it even has Luxe in the name!
Best Design
our reviewer sitting on Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress

It definitely lives up to its name when it comes to luxury. This is because it's the type of mattress where no corners are cut!

For one, the Simba Hybrid Luxe has a whopping 11 layers, each specially designed to keep you as comfortable as possible. And within these 11 layers, we'll also find nothing but the highest-quality mattress materials on the market. For one, the memory foam is infused with graphite, making it 30x more breathable than most standard foam mattresses.

But that wasn't good enough for Simba, so they incorporated bamboo-infused wool. Not only does this further amp the temperature regulation of the mattress but it also makes for an anti-bacterial sleeping surface. And don't even get us started on the 6000 spring support system!

If you're interested in learning more about this absolute unit – feel free to check out the detailed review of the Luxe.

A sustainable option for a luxury mattress.

Panda hybrid bamboo mattress closeup

The Hybrid Bamboo Mattress from Panda has been cleverly crafted with 6 layers to give you the ultimate sleep experience. At the top of the mattress, we have the bamboo cover which is soft to the touch and temperature regulating while being naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic. Below this cover you’ll find their BioCell Foam that has been infused with bamboo to make it odour-resistant and breathable. The other foam layer is their OrthoAlign Foam which is a high density foam that helps with spinal alignment for comfort and support.

Next up we have the spring layer to make it a hybrid mattress. It has seven zones to work with your body and positioning, as well as being individually enclosed to reduce any motion transfer. Beneath the springs there’s another dense foam to absorb movement and distribute your body weight.

From top to bottom, this mattress has all the properties you could want from a luxury mattress and a mattress to suit almost everyone’s needs.

What to look for when buying the best luxury mattress

This might sound controversial, but an expensive mattress is not necessarily a luxury mattress. It might feel luxurious because it costs a fortune, but that doesn't make it so. A luxury mattress must be well-made, well-designed, generously thick, remarkably comfy, and made by a reputable brand. If it lacks any of the aforementioned traits – it's just expensive. Speaking of traits, let's learn a few things about them so that you can spot a luxury mattress from a mile away.

Brands

Just like with any other material thing – a brand name means something.
However, what's different about the mattress industry is that a brand name holds even more weight. What we mean is you can easily spend your money on an overpriced brand-name shirt that's below-average quality. However, if you spend your money on an expensive brand-name mattress – you're not getting a below-average product. You're getting yourself a premium mattress.

a small logo from Simba Sleep brand

Brand names that make flagship quality mattresses are Simba Sleep, Dunlopillo, Eve, Emma, Harrison Spinks, Nectar, Winstons, to name a few. So, if you happen to spot a pricey mattress from any of them – you may rest assured you're not overpaying for it.

And this goes beyond just the quality of the mattress itself. This is because higher-end brands tend to offer features that low-to-middle price point mattresses simply can't. For example:

High-quality materials

A double wooden bed on a white background

What makes an expensive mattress a luxurious one are high-quality materials.
Memory foam, pocket springs, or latex – whatever you're searching for, you need to make sure that the quality of those materials is top-notch.

For a memory foam mattress, that would be 3rd generation foam, free of any harmful or toxic chemicals, made to stand up to the test of time, capture less heat, minimize motion transfer, and revert to its initial shape as fast as possible.

On the other hand, pocket sprung mattresses should come with titanium or steel coils. The coils should be durable, long-lasting, corrosion-resistant, silent, firm but giving, and there needs to be quite a lot of them. Big or small – it doesn't really matter as long as they're premium.

But what does this look like in practice? Let's go through the main mattress types and describe exactly what you should be looking for in order to get the best mattress money can buy.

Memory foam mattresses

Typically for memory foam mattresses, you want to look for models that infuse the foam with a breathable material. This is because memory foam mattresses typically struggle a lot when it comes to temperature regulation and will trap heat during the night. So, if you find a luxury mattress that infuses the foam with bamboo or charcoal/graphite, know that you won't have to worry about such issues.

However, that's not the only thing you should look out for. While not as breathable, having an open cell foam layer also helps out quite a bit. You should also check the individual foam layers. This is because some mattresses have a very thin memory foam layer and use lower-end foam for the rest of the mattress.

Lastly, on a similar note, check whether the foam has different firmness levels. This is typically categorised under zoned support. What that means is that supportive memory foam will be strategically placed within the mattress in order to better support your joints.

Pocket-sprung mattresses

When it comes to pocket-sprung mattresses, of course, the pocket springs take the central stage. First off, make sure that they're actually pocket springs and not an innerspring layer. It might sound like a small factor but it's actually very important. This is because an innerspring mattress will typically be of lower quality and will struggle with motion transfer quite a bit.

Secondly, check out the springs themselves. More often than not, a mattress with large, strong springs is ideal if you want a firm mattress. However, mattresses with two or three layers of smaller pocket springs will typically offer better support.

With all of that being said, a pocket-sprung mattress isn't automatically good just because the springs are good. So, check out the filler material as well. Spring mattresses usually don't have issues with temperature regulation but it's still nice if you get a breathable mattress and a filling that isn't a low-end synthetic.

An illustration showing the differences between memory foam and open coil mattresses

Hybrid mattresses

When it comes to hybrid mattresses, just combine what we've said about the previous two. For firmer mattresses, look for hybrids that only use foam in the top layer. And if you want a soft hybrid mattress, look for a model that only uses smaller spring layers and has at least 2 cm of memory foam.

It's also important to keep in mind that some hybrids might have some breathability issues. At least when compared to regular spring mattresses. So, if you can find bamboo memory foam or a eucalyptus cover while mattress shopping, be sure to snag them up.

Latex mattresses

When it comes to latex, it's rather simple. Latex is like memory foam but with a few bonuses. And, more often than not, if you can find a latex mattress that uses natural latex, you're going to get a luxury product. This goes for most natural materials but latex is especially safe in this regard.

However, if you really want the most luxurious latex mattress money can buy, get a model made from Talalay latex. It can be a bit difficult to find but it's without a doubt among the most high-quality mattress materials on the market.

Thickness

An image of a minimalistic bedroom with a thick mattress.

A luxury mattress needs to be at least 25 cm thick. That's the minimum requirement whether you're buying a pocket-sprung mattress or a memory foam one.

This is because the thickness of the mattress directly influences its performance. After all, the more layers that are between you and the bed frame, the more comfortable and supported you're likely going to be. On a similar note, if the mattress is rather thin, it probably doesn't have that many layers.

And, as we've seen, the best mattresses typically have 3+ layers to make a well-rounded product. Be it by having multiple layers of springs in a hybrid mattress or even different foam layers in a traditional memory foam mattress.

There's a slight caveat in cases where you have a low bed frame or a custom RV mattress but typically, the thicker the better. You can also make up the difference with a thicker mattress topper but why fix the problem if you can just avoid it in the first place?

The firmness

No matter how luxurious the mattress is, if you get the wrong firmness level, you're going to end up unhappy. That's because the wrong firmness level can lead to an improper spine alignment and back pain!

Basically, your ideal firmness level depends on your weight and your sleeping position. The lighter you are, the softer the mattress needs to be. And the heavier you are, the firmer it needs to be.

Furthermore, side sleepers need softer mattresses, stomach sleepers need firmer mattresses, and back sleepers are somewhat in the middle. Just look at the table below to see where exactly you fall and which mattress can help with back pain in your case!

An infographic showcasing different mattress firmness levels

Certificates and awards

an illustration of awards & certificates.

Certificates and awards are also vital.

As for certificates, you'll want to look at the standard ones, like CertiPUR or OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. These certificates testify to the product's quality and safety. For example, an OEKO-TEX certification proves that no harmful substances or chemicals are found within the mattress.

As for awards, well, that's pretty self-explanatory. If the mattress was awarded and was recognised by trusted establishments – it's not a waste of money. And since a luxury mattress is going to be rather expensive, you want to make sure that your comfy sleep surface isn't secretly hiding any dangerous chemicals or low-end materials.

Tips for buying and using the best luxury mattresses

It would be a shame to spend more than a thousand pounds on a mattress and then not make the most of it, wouldn't it?

On that note, we've decided to endow you with a couple of valuable tips:

A luxury mattress has to come from a reputable source. It would be outright foolish to spend four figures on a mattress anywhere but at a reputable store – online or brick-and-mortar.

You should never keep a mattress on the floor, but we could probably let it slide if you've spent pocket change on it. However, a premium mattress deserves to be treated with respect. It deserves its thone. So, if you've spent some money on a high-quality mattress – you might as well buy a bed frame, too.

In fact, most maintenance guides will tell you the same thing. Even some warranties will be completely void if you're using a low-quality bed frame or are leaving your mattress on the floor. After all, most mattresses need the support and structure of a good bed frame with properly aligned slats.

Speaking of slats, they also help regulate body temperature, as the hot air has an exit point. So, if you have a foam mattress or a hybrid with a memory foam top layer, a proper bed frame can actually help out.

The advantages of owning the best luxury mattress

What good is owning a premium mattress if you don't know what you're getting from it? So you'd have bragging rights? No, that can't be it.

Here are just some actual benefits you'd get with one of these:

We'll start with the most obvious advantage – durability and longevity. What's there to say? These mattresses are exceptionally well built from only the finest materials – they're just made to last longer.

If there's anything you can expect at this price point – that's support and comfort. These mattresses are simply in a league of their own. You won't know what that feels like until you lie on top of one of them.

With great power comes great responsibility, and with comfort comes great sleep quality. It's that simple. A few nights on one of these, and you'll sleep like a baby.

Also, you'll wake up pain-free. And that's priceless!

Conclusion

And that's all you need to know to find the best luxury mattress ! Just stick to reputable brands, decide which mattress type suits you the best, and take your time finding the perfect model.

However, if you do have any further questions, check out the FAQ section below or leave us a comment! And if you have a mattress in mind that you'd like us to review before you pull the trigger and buy it, let us know.
